1863: Mrs Hoffman born in Canada

1888: Married to "Mattie" Jarmin, who was then living in Kansas, in Osceola, Nebraska on March 20 (Washington County News Times, 13 October 1938)

1905: Couple arrived in Forest Grove from Arnold, Nebraska

1906: Moved into what is now a historic home, named it Green Gables.

1938: They celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in March, then Mr. Hoffman passes in October.

"Final Services For Mrs. Hoffman Held Tuesday. Old timers and newer friends, and former associates in the Ladies' Aid, attended final services Tuesday, January 28, in the Methodist church for Mrs. Martha E. Hoffman, a widow of A.G. Hoffman, owner of a Forest Grove department store for more than a quarter of a century...Mrs. Hoffman (passed)...January 25, at her apartment in her former home, Main street S., after a week's illness. Mrs. Martha Ellen Jarmin Hoffman was born in Canada, July 5, 1863. The family was living in Kansas, and Mrs Hoffman was teaching school before her marriage in 1888, to A.G. Hoffman. They came to Forest Grove in 1905, from Arnold, Neb., and in 1906 moved into their newly completed home, 231 Main street S., which they named Green Gables. It was there in March of 1938 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary...she was one of the charter members of the Woman's club and interested in civic affairs."
